Whilst the world celebrated the New Year and the dawn of 2008, I was lying in bed, wracked with fever and a headache that was so bad that I was hoping that it was proof of some latent mutant telepathic power that was finally about to manifest. Alas, I had the pain, but not the telepathy.

After 4 days and still no sign of the fever abating, it turns out that I had dengue fever. Oh joy. Little did I know that I would be sent from one health center to another over and over again.

The "journey" began at my family doctor's. After taking my blood test the day before, she felt that my blood platelet level was low enough that there's a high chance that I had dengue. So she gave me a referral letter and told me to go to the hospital that very day.

Expecting to be admitted, I packed my bag and went to the hospital with my parents where I had to take another blood test. Similar result: low platelet count. However, the doctor sent me home and gave me a referral letter, telling me to take another blood test at the polyclinic the next day.

After my third blood test, the doctor at the polyclinic said that my blood platelet count was low, something which I already know, and gave me a referral letter to the hospital. The next day, I took my fourth blood test at the hospital and was told that my blood platelet count needed to be less than 100 before I can be admitted. My blood count at that point in time? Exactly 100. So they sent me home and gave me another referral letter to the polyclinic.

So, in the span of four days, I've had to go from private doctor's -> hospital -> polyclinic -> hospital -> polyclinic. And throughout this ridiculous game of human volleyball whereby yours truly was the aforementioned ball being passed around ignominiously, I've had a 38-degree fever, a crushing headache, and a bout of diarrhoea. And I still couldn't get admitted into the hospital. Omg, I fail at life.

Anyway, my fever's gone now and I feel pretty good. I still need to take another blood test next week because even though my blood platelet count is rising back up, it's still below normal levels. Oh well. At least the worst is over. So to everyone who's had their birthdays or who sent me new year wishes, Happy Belated Birthday and Happy Belated New Year respectively. And Happy Islamic New Year to all Muslims since it's today and I'm not sick this time around, haha.

sickiesz, wtf life?
