A/N: My piece of epic fail. For you,
fading_sun_sock. I'm sorry this < yours.
Really, as if his hair turning pink last week hadn't been enough, or the bewitched cauldron of Tuesday (which had spewed out his ingredients as he added them, soaking him throughly with pig's blood), Yesung was still the target of a seemingly endless series of pranks. They were totally uncalled for, in his opinion. After all, Yesung's confiscation of that table from those Hufflepuffs was perfectly justified. He was a seventh year, and therefore was entitled to whichever table he chose. And those boils he had given them had only lasted a few hours, anyways.
It was the one with the bright, innocent smile. He had discovered this in between Transfiguration and Divination several days later, when he opened his bag to find a coat of slime covering his supplies. He had glanced up to see those distinct features, the high cheekbones and thick, arched eyebrows. It had to have been him, the one in the middle of those same Hufflepuffs, smiling brightly and looking directly into his eyes as he passed, clearly chuckling at his misfortune.
So Yesung had returned the favor. Only, he "missed" the bag and instead soaked the Hufflepuff. Instantly, the smile had dropped from the boy's face and his arm snapped toward Yesung, a jet of blue light spurting from his wand. Fur began to spring up from Yesung's arm, which was already extended toward the other boy. The younger boy's pants shrank slowly, but Yesung stopped it quickly as a look of pain and panic overtook the other's features. The hesitation gave the boy enough time to return his pants to their original size, and he quickly raised his wand. The two had opened their mouths to cast spells at each other when a voice called through the crowd.
"Kim Jongwoon! Kim Ryeowook!" Siwon yelled, looking affronted as he pushed through the onlooking students. "What on earth is... Jongwoon, what happened to your arms?"
"Him," Yesung replied, casting a glance at the grimy boy across from him. "And don't call me Jongwoon. It's Yesung."
"Whatever you call yourself, the two of you have detention tonight," Siwon stated, adjusting his prefect badge. "Dungeons, immediately after dinner." He pointed his wand at the Hufflepuff and cleared up the slime before flouncing off down the hall, calling, "Get to class!" over his shoulder.
The other students quickly dispersed, leaving Yesung and the boy -- Ryeowook, Siwon had called him--- standing alone in the hall. Yesung's face was molded into a fierce scowl, deepening when Ryeowook winked at him, sang out, "See you tonight!" and skipped off to class. Yesung stood in the hallway for a minute or two, fuming silently, before he left for the library to figure out how to get the fur off his arms.
--
At dinner that night, Yesung sat silently, glowering at the chicken drumstick on his plate. He glanced up at the Hufflepuff table, when the feeling of eyes on him became too strong to ignore, and sure enough, Ryeowook was staring at him unashamedly, insufferable grin plastered on his face. The younger boy waved happily at him while the Hufflepuffs around him laughed behind their hands. Yesung assured him that this was not appreciated by a hand gesture of his own. Heechul nudged him.
"What's going on with you and Ryeowook over there?" he asked, looking over at said Hufflepuff with unveiled curiosity. "Isn't he a little young for you?"
"Nothing is going on!" Yesung insisted, his face heating up. "We just have detention tonight!"
"Oh, really?" Heechul wriggled his eyebrows. "Is that what you kids are calling it nowadays?"
"Shut up!" Yesung hissed. He elbowed Heechul's ribs. "I don't need rumors like that going around."
"Rumors. Of course," Heechul sang, winking at him. "My lips are sealed."
"Mine, too!" Donghae jumped in loudly, leaning over Heechul to grab more corn. "But isn't Ryeowook with that Ravenclaw? Kyuhyun?"
"Donghae! Keep it down!" Yesung threw a roll at Donghae, who caught it easily and took a bite.
"He can't be. He can't even keep his eyes of our Yesungie here for 10 seconds. But, come to think of it, Kyuhyun does look a bit peeved..." Heechul observed.
Donghae shrugged, chewing happily. "He always looks like that."
"Guys, leave Yesung alone," Leeteuk chimed in from across the table. "His love life is his business."
"So there IS romance involved, then?" Heechul asked with a smirk.
Yesung stood up suddenly, drawing the attention of the entire table. "I'm going back to the room."
"Have fun tonight!" Donghae called after him, and Leeteuk shoved him slightly, motioning for him to be quiet.
--
Yesung stepped cautiously into the detention room that night, wand already in his hand. He kept his distance from Ryeowook, who was perched innocently on top of a desk with his chin resting in his palms, face serious and contemplative. When Ryeowook glanced up and their eyes met, his solemn expression faded instantly, replaced with that smile Yesung detested. Yesung averted his eyes.
"What are you looking at?" He asked the empty portrait on the wall irritably.
"You," Ryeowook replied honestly, staring quite openly. "Your eyes are quite lovely, you know."
"Sorry to disappoint, but I'm not into little boys," Yesung shot back disgustedly. Ryeowook's face lit up.
"So, you are into boys, then," he stated, grinning happily.
"Wha-- No!" Yesung's face reddened. "I'm not-- I don't like--"
Ryeowook's smile widened even further (How is that even possible?, Yesung thought) as he slipped off the desk, taking slow, deliberate steps toward Yesung.
"Then why are you so flustered?" Ryeowook's voice dropped, and his eyes adopted a predatory gleam. Yesung panicked slightly and backed up, running into a desk, cursing, and scrambling over it.
"Y-yah! What are you... What do you think you're doing?" he stammered, backing into the door. Ryeowook shrugged.
"Just making a move," came the blunt reply. Yesung suddenly remembered that he had a wand clutched in his hand, and raised it between himself and Ryeowook, who was now mere inches from him. The professor walked in at that moment. Ryeowook stepped back from Yesung, hands held up in surrender.
"Kim Jongwoon, put that wand away now," the professor commanded, not even pausing on his way to the storage closet. Ryeowook chuckled softly and followed, leaving Yesung standing there stupidly, muttering something that sounded like, "Don't call me Jongwoon."
--
The two were set to work brewing pepper-up potion for the infirmary. They sat side by side, Yesung carefully avoiding Ryeowook's heated gaze as he crushed his nettle into a fine powder and slowly slid away from the younger boy's knee, which was purposely touching his.
"Can you stop that?" he ground out angrily an hour later, after they had made a complete circle around the cauldron. "I'm not gay, alright?"
"I beg to differ," Ryeowook countered. "Your face is all red."
"Because I'm angry!" Yesung growled.
"No, you're flustered," argued Ryeowook. He touched Yesung's arm lightly, causing him to shiver. "And you get goose-bumps on your arms whenever I touch you."
"Because you're creeping me out!"
"Deny it all you want, but you definitely like men."
"I don't! I like women! Beautiful women with curves and breasts and long, shiny hair!"
"Keep telling yourself that. I know it isn't true." Ryeowook leaned in until he was right in Yesung's face. "It's written all over your face."
"What?" Yesung asked, his mouth suddenly very dry. Ryeowook just smiled, pulling away from Yesung's face and turning back to the potion. Yesung scowled and reached over to where a glass of water was sitting on the desk. He took a sip, eyes never leaving Ryeowook, and set it back down, glancing back over at Ryeowook. "What do you mean?"
Then Yesung paused, a sudden shudder going through his entire body. He felt his skin stretching and his chest changing shape. Looking down, he emitted a shout of anguish when he saw two large lumps protruding beneath his shirt. His disbelieving gaze tore towards Ryeowook, who wasn't even bothering to conceal his triumphant grin.
"You--!" was all Yesung could get out before anger overtook him and he jumped onto Ryeowook, knocking them both to the floor with a loud clatter. He straddled him, holding him up by his collar. "What the fuck did you do?! Why am I a girl?! Change it back before I pound your face in!"
Ryeowook's smile remained unwavering. "See? I knew you didn't really like breasts."
Yesung made a noise that resembled a strangled roar and pulled his fist back to hit Ryeowook, whose face had dropped and now looked a bit frightened. Yesung hesitated, affected by the victimized look Ryeowook was sporting. After a moment's thought, he dropped his arm and huffed. "Fix it," he commanded the younger boy.
"I can't," Ryeowook replied, biting his lip.
"Why not?!" Yesung growled.
"Because you probably deserve it," came a deep, adult voice from behind Yesung. Yesung's eyes widened and he stood up quickly, spinning to face Professor Ahn. "I can't believe you two can't even make a second year potion properly. This should be a pale red right now. Which one of you put the nightshade in too early?"
"Me," Ryeowook admitted to the floor.
"That's too bad, Ryeowook," Professor Ahn clicked his tongue. "I guess you'll both be in here Saturday night, then. Go back to your dorms."
The professor sauntered out of the room, leaving Yesung and Ryeowook in silence. Yesung spun on the younger boy, rage flaring in his eyes. "I have to spend another night in detention with you?! Argh! What the hell is wrong with you?!"
That insufferable smile had returned. "Well, I can't wait until Saturday. See you then!"
He pranced out of the room before Yesung could think of anything coherent to say. He eventually settled for "fuck," cursing softly to the empty room before he clutched his robes around his enlarged chest and ran off toward the Slytherin common room.
When Yesung stomped up the steps to his dormitory, he bumped into a passing Heechul, earning an irritated look, which turned into one of amusement once he had assessed the situation.
"Wow," Heechul stated intelligently with a smirk.
"Shut up," Yesung whined, pushing past him. "Don't even say anything."
"I didn't know you two were into roleplaying!" Heechul called up after him. "I could have given you some good spells for that!"
"SHUT UP!" Yesung howled. He took the steps two at a time until he could no longer hear Heechul's malicious laughter.
