Terra Nova and other dinosaurs

Alright, I agree, that's not quite fair. Let me explain.

I watched the Terra Nova pilot. I'm going to pause right here to say I didn't hate it. It's just... it's like someone tried to remake Stargate: Atlantis as a mainstream show. A sci-fi skeleton, with several appendages for romance, mystery, action/adventure, procedural, medical, comedy and 'ooh, lookit, Australia!' There's a lot packed in there, in the hopes to satisfy the widest range of people possible. I'll stick with it for a while at least.

What else, what else... Oh! Ever since I started watching QI I've been fan-casting a Canadian version. It's... not going so well. I can't get past the first step, the Stephen Fry analogue. Ideas???

There was a news release a while ago about Bell optioning some Canadian mystery books. The only author I had heard of was Giles Blunt, whose John Cardinal series I absolutely adore. I'm a bit anxious but mostly excited, as apparently Giles Blunt is involved with/writing the treatment himself. One of the other novels optioned was "Old City Hall" by Robert Rotenberg, which I coincidentally came across in the library last week and am in the middle of reading at the moment. Takes a bit to get used to, but I think it would work quite well on screen.

Also newly picked up from the library: some graphic novels by Jeff Lemire. "Essex County" and the first volume of "Sweet Tooth". I'm waiting until I've finished "Old City Hall", but I'm quite looking forward to them.

Also in the graphic novel/comics category: I'm re-reading the first four volumes of "The Boys", and I'm going to try and continue with the series. I'm not sure where and how the side stories like "Highland Laddie" fit in, but I really liked the series when I started it last year and I'd like to see where it goes. And thanks to a suggestion from Guy at HMV, I'm going to be looking into Punisher MAX when I get the chance. (Although I'm a little confused with that, too - did Garth Ennis do two series?) I've also just finished "Deadpool Pulp" which was a very interesting re-imagining and had some great art.

There is surprisingly little going on in the way of television these days. I've dropped Glee, NCIS, House, Fringe and Bones (although honestly that was a long time ago). I'm actually on the fence about continuing with Hawaii Five-0 (I haven't even seen the S1 finale yet). On the other hand there are a lot of shows that I really want to watch but just can't work myself up to it. I'd like to catch up with Burn Notice, Eureka (considering it's being CANCELLED. Sy-Fy I hate choo.), Doctor Who, and Lost Girl. I should probably stop now or I'll be listing TV shows all day...

I've just started reading "The Tempest" (thank you, Google Books) but I have a feeling I'll be taking this very slowly. I've never read Shakespeare outside of school. Mostly I just want to watch the movie with Helen Mirren, because Helen Mirren is awesome.

(In related news, I watched Calendar Girls a few weeks ago, mostly because the Life on Mars chat group suggested it. Philip Glenister is adorable! I also now have a long list of John Simm things to watch.)

Um um um. What else?

Primeval. I would say it's my primary fandom at the moment. Connor/Lester and their adorably awkward romance has taken over my head for the last few weeks. (Although there are a few Sherlock tidbits sneaking around as well...)

And Delicious. Rage, hate, fanatical crying, etc. At the moment I have little opinion on the change, as I CANNOT LOG INTO MY FUCKING ACCOUNT. I've done the hosts file hack to export my bookmarks (I'm not taking very kindly to the 'you should have seen this coming' people, because who would have expected AVOS to break the whole damn thing?). But I liked Delicious the way it was, and whine, whine, whine. Not everything needs to be "social", some things are perfectly fine when left at "functional".

Can I end this on a positive note? Let's see... oh, right. Everyone watch Michael: Tuesdays and Thursdays, because it's GOOD!

primeval, complaininate!, house, too many tags!, canada, doctor who, life on mars, deadpool, burn notice, michael: tuesdays and thursdays, comics, movies, lost girl, books, i can be meta, stargate atlantis, fringe, qi, bones, shakespeare, terra nova, eureka, glee, hawaii five-0, ncis
