Job offer

As I expected, the Fitchburg Sentinel & Enterprise offered me a job today as a reporter/paginator. The initial offer comes with a pay raise of just over $3,000 a year - before taxes. While I certainly would love to have an extra $3,000 a year, I don't like the idea of driving 55 minutes to and from work (course I could move closer to Fitchburg) or the 3-11 p.m. schedule I'd be working 5 days a week, including at least one Friday or Saturday each week.

I told them I'd get back to them tomorrow after discussing it with Cherie. We didn't talk about it much because I already knew I didn't plan to take the job if offered unless the money involved was too good to turn down. $3,000 extra a year just isn't enough to make me do this change. I'd essentially see Cherie twice a week (she'd be in bed by the time I got home from work, and she'd be at work when I woke up in the morning) and the pay increase would pretty much be spent on gas mileage on the way to and from work.
