Okay, so last weekend in Massachusetts? In-fucking-sane. It was random and exciting and ridiculous and hysterical. Denny's on Sunday? I don't think I've laughed that hard in a long time. And I'm so proud of my Harm City Homicide boys that I'm well nigh busting my bra straps. Tomorrow is more derby--a preview of championships with my Speed Regime girls taking on the Night Terrors and the Junkyard Dolls taking on the Mobtown Mods. I'm already getting psyched for it, even if I will have to tone down my SR love a bit because I'll be taking blocker notes for the bout recap again.
The coldcuts in this derby weekend sandwich? A bipolar week of being irritated, frustrated and miserable by day and feeling fantastic by night. It's physically and emotionally draining.
I'll save up all my derby recapping for after tomorrow's bout. In the meantime, here are my belated answers to the five questions meme from
oboe_sama:
1. What made you interested in bellydancing in the first place?
Last year when I was still working my shitty traffic job, not having anything by way of a life and still on the fence about the whole doing derby thing, I decided that I was sick of sitting around at home and not getting any exercise. I really hate going to gyms, I couldn't afford a pool membership (stupid Columbia Association) and I've never been fond of running, so I was looking for something different and new to try. Bellydancing intrigued me because it was putting something I already had in ample supply (i.e. booty, belly and good birthing hips) to good use, which was sort of empowering, especially because I've always been pretty self-conscious about my body and its Rubenesque proportions. I wanted to be doing something that made me feel like my body was an asset, not a hindrance. Also I knew it was the sort of thing dudes would find totally hot when they found out I did it. When I found out a class was starting up at a community center near my house, I said what the hell and signed up.
2. If there was one physical thing about yourself that you could change, what would you change? What non-physical thing would you change?
Physically: Empowerment through bellydancing and derby or not, I would definitely want to flatten my tummy. Zaftig is all well and good, but not when you're all rolls and bulges in odd places. Thank you, two years of
Boston braces for
scoliosis, for totally screwing up the fat-and-muscle infrastructure of my midsection!
Non-Physically: My cripplingly low self-esteem. Also the fact that I simply cannot stay awake at work, no matter how much sleep I got the night before. I don't know if it's boredom or mild narcolepsy, but it's pissing me off.
3. What's your favorite anime series of all?
Hmm, tough call, especially because I really haven't seen enough of it to consider myself any kind of expert on the subject. Right now I'm digging
Blood+ because it's got an intriguing storyline and it brings Teh Pretty, but I can't really call it a favorite because the lead female character is awfully grating, not to mention so obtuse sometimes I want to smack her. Ditto for
Trinity Blood, which is gorgeous to look at and has the potential to be a really great story, except that it chose to divert attention from the far more interesting characters and focus on the irritating chick with big boobs, plus it petered out after only 20-some episodes. I was into
Inuyasha,
Fullmetal Alchemist and
Bleach for a while, but they're so long and involved that if you miss a few episodes, you get totally lost. I guess thus far the only anime I've seen that I enjoyed the story, the characters and the whole look of the series was
Samurai Champloo. I really need to broaden my anime horizons beyond just what's shown on
Adult Swim.

4. Tell me something embarrassing that I can use to blackmail you with.
Dude, you've read my LJ, you've heard me sing and you've
shared sleeping space with me. I daresay you've got more than enough fodder for blackmail.
5. What's your favorite booze?
I'm honestly not much of a drinker, so I can't say I have a favorite per se. Pretty much if it goes down easy and doesn't involve taking it as a shot, I can tolerate it. The fruitier and girlier it is, the better. My mixed drink of choice is cranberry juice and vodka, and I prefer Grey Goose to whatever the cheap stuff is. I do like some wines though, particularly Rieslings and other light stuff. Alcohol-wise I'm very boring. I prefer to be the DD. That way you get less stuff with which to answer question 4.
