May Bout!
Bout Day ahoy! As always I'm more psyched than is probably normal. I'm going the Flickrazzi route this time around and bringing my big film camera to see if I can get some decent shots. I had a lot of luck at the East Coast Derby Extravaganza, but then the lighting at the Sportsplex was a bit more forgiving than Skateland. But I've got my big-ass flash, my 80-200mm lens, my 800-speed film and some tips from one of the part-timers at work whose real job is photographing impossibly attractive women, so he knows his lighting. It's all going to be done by trial and error, so we'll see how it turns out!
This bout should also be interesting because there is a large contingent of trafficky types joining me today. My boss Dave and his daughter Nadia are coming again, but so is Barry--the guy who works the afternoon shift--and his daughter, and my old boss Jerry, who works for the competition now. My boss and I have been talking up derby big-time to Barry and Jerry so they're pretty keen on seeing what all the fuss is about.
Hmm... a bunch of traffic reporters at a roller derby bout. This has the potential for hilarity, but it has equal potential for being kind of weird. Again, we'll see how it turns out. It's a go-with-the-flow sort of day.
