Nope, sorry to disappoint, I'm not dead. At least not yet. I might die of stress this month, though.
Hmmmm, let me explain. For those of you who are confused as to why I am not on campus very much, well, a) I graduated and b) I moved to England. Now I am in Chapeltown, which is a village outside of Sheffield, which is pretty much smakc dab in the centre of the island.
As for why I haven't been emailing or posting, I only got broadband last night. Although what sort of broadband goes through phone lines? Isn't broadband cable? Alex, help me out here. (ps Alex- tightie whities are not good, regardless of colour. Boxer briefs.)
Hmm, so far I have been to Edinburgh, York, and Whitby (famous for lucky glass ducks and being where Dracula landed in Bram Stoker's novel. It's like a perfect mix of sleepy seaside village and gothic themepark. I highly recommend a visit.)
Right now, death is approaching because this morning I registered to take the GRE in 24 days. And the test prep software won't download to my Mac, because even though I supposedly can boot it up in Windows, I don't have a Windows operating system installed.
I have finally, *fingers crossed* picked my four schools to apply to: Berkeley, Edinburgh, Brunel and Chicago. All diverse, all big names that are likely to reject me. I am so desperate for a good reference letter that I seriously contempleted asking my friend Amanda, who is in India, to try and find professor of mine who is there on sabbatical and force her to write me a reference letter. My prof, not Amanda.
I will celebrate writing my GRE by going to Italy and Spain, so there's something to look forward to.
I have paid off my student loans. Four years of education, less than $5000 in debt. Scholarships are sweet.
I rented a horror movie set in the Museum of Anthropology. Ya know, nothing makes Christian Slater look like a good actor than being paired ith Tara Reid. Who plays an archaeologist. Oh, yes, I am not kidding. Also, did you know there is a movie that features Freddie Prinze Jr. in a non-teen comedy role? I only mention it because it came up in conversation on the train, and no one I was with could think of a non-teen movie he had been in, and then we went to the library and saw it on the shelf.
Everybody should rent Kinky Boots, if it ever comes out in North America, especially if you saw Serenity, since the assassin-actor in that is playing a VERY different role.
Kasim, Happy Birthday!
If anyone is thinking about visiting England in the next few months, give me a shout, you can sleep on my very comfy white leather couch. Oh yes, my rental place is fully-furnished and awesome. And has a lawn.
This is probably the longest random post I have ever created, Enjoy!
