How many people do you know who don't have at least one kid by choice? I can't really think of any. Not any of my friends anyway. Why is this? Do you think everyone wants to have a child of their own? Do you think they feel like they HAVE to? It's expected of them? It's what society and their family thinks they should do?
Last night my bf and I were talking about kids, as we were coming from a baby shower. And we both want them and then don't at the same time. So I started to think why I wanted them and why I didn't. Do I only want them b/c it's the thing women should do? B/c all my friends have them and I feel left out? B/c the world is mostly separated by "people with kids" and "people without" and the "people without" is getting smaller and smaller. If I don't want them am I being selfish? Though I have always felt people who have kids are just as selfish. And why wouldn't I want one you may ask? B/c I feel like I am getting too old to have them. Like I won't have the energy to do things with them. What I grew up with education and technology wise is going to be nothing compared to what they will grow up with. I can't keep up now. And frankly, I don't want to. But it would be nice to share traditions and create the family that I never had (see, selfish reason). :)
