I heart the 9:30 Club.

Simone already updated about the Liz Phair concert, but I'm going to do my little review. I adore Liz Phair - she's beautiful, talented, and creative, but she really isn't a very good performer. Granted, it was the last night of the tour, but still - she didn't seem to connect with the audience at all and there was none of the usual between-song banter. She didn't even acknowledge the audience until she said that we were "really respectful." Her first opener, Rachel Something (I can't remember) seemed tres drunk when she went on and even more drunk/stoned when she went on with Liz for the encore. Her grandmother was sitting right in front of my dad on the balcony, and Rachel kept apologizing to her for talking about sex. And she kept complaining about how her boyfriend left her for his ex-girlfriend. GET OVER IT!

We went on the floor for the second opener and Liz, and there was a cute lesbian couple right near us. A lady who was much to old to be dancing kept dancing really embarassingly right in front of Simone and I. The next opener, Wheat, was awesome! I thought that they did a much better job than Liz did as performers, and they were really good-looking, too. Right after Liz started, a lady standing next to us got busted for under-age drinking so we had more room to spread out after her and her friends left.

Liz's set list was... well, she seemed to pick every single song that my dad edited out of my burned versions of her CDs. But if I don't learn it here, I'll learn it on the street, right? I got a free EP which they were later selling for $5 and a T-shirt. The merch guy thought I was a lunatic because I also bought a shirt for my sister. Plus I got a pin and a 9:30 Club sticker that I think I'm gonna put on my bass. Speaking of guitars - I'm very proud of myself, because I identified what the bands were playing. Liz and the guy from Wheat had Telecasters (which is what I want) but then the guy from Wheat broke a string and was playing an Epiphone.

Much fun was had by all, I think, and with any luck Simone and I are also going to see Sleater-Kinney together later this month.
