Quick Hits

Time for more quick hits:

The first post-Lizabeth date prior to Labor Day Weekend went well enough to justify a second one. The second one was a completely unmitigated disaster, to the point where it was like I went on a date with a totally different person. It was so bad that it was funny. C'est la vie.

I went to the first two games of the Oakland/Tribe series Monday & Tuesday. Oakland won the first and looked good doing it, and then lost the second and looked bad doing that. At this point I am quite convinced that Oakland has to win the divison to make the playoffs. The Tribe, on the other hand, look like they are in the catbird seat for the wild card.

I bought my Decemberist tickets for October 15. Watson, Micah, gieves and darlox will be joining me, and I have an extra ticket in case a cute girl wants to come along.

Speaking of cute girls, I met aspasia93 and xhollydayx via infowidget and glacial23 after Studio-A-Rama 2005. This ended up with us at IHOP at 3 in the morning, where many interesting conversations were had, especially because I was completely exhausted and might have been hallucinating. Mmmm... IHOP. Wish that had been open when I was an undergraduate, because it's a hell of a lot closer than My Friends.

Speaking of Studio-A-Rama 2005, it was pretty good. There wasn't a great band that knocked my socks off like Infinite Number of Sounds did in 2003, but none of the bands were bad either. My personal favorite was The Avatars out of Ann Arbor, and not just because the lead singer was smoking hot, although that didn't hurt. I spent most of the day assisting the stage manager and caffeinating myself overly much.

Speaking of Infinite Number of Sounds, their new album Radio Whales is *much* better than their first album. I played some of it on the freeform portion of the inaugural edition of Delirium Series X. Read the show description because I am proud of it. Download the show if you like trip-hop.

Mike's bachelor party is this weekend. Whirlyball, baseball, Brasa Grill and vast quantities of alcohol are on the agenda. I've got 2 guys coming in from California, one from Arizona, one from Chicago, 3 from the Columbus area. It's going to be insane. I'm almost glad that as the best man I have to be mostly sober, because I want to remember this :-)

Got a rather substantial raise, retroactive to July. Woo!! In another two months top I will have no debts remaining whatsoever, which means that it is either time to buy a good mattress, a good stereo, or a huge pile of comics. Or all 3.

Body Worlds 2 was really crowded and overpriced at $16. It was also really impressive. Some of the things they did with the human body were quite amazing and beautiful and I am glad I went. Afterwards butterandjelly, darlox and gieves and I headed to Great Lakes Brewery. I like it fine there, but we really need to find another downtown eatery with a more diverse menu.

Losing 15 pounds due to food poisoning will never be the most popular way to lose weight, but it sure was effective. I've gained some of it back already, but I hope to be at the gym a lot more in coming weeks as my schedule slows down.

You *really* need to go see Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings at the Beachland on Sunday, October 2. Trust me on this. Watson & I will be there, plus the usual horde of WRUWites.

And I think I'm mostly caught up now, except I need to update the concert list...
