Over the last two weeks Birdie has started helping me cook. Of course, as a three-year-old her ability to help is far exceeded by her ability to accidentally cause chaos, but I've found a few things that she can do.
- holding measuring spoons while I fill them and then and dumping them in bowls
- stirring bowls
- throwing things in the trash
- putting dishes in sink
- peeling onions, which she started doing all on her own with no prompting by me
- turning the timer on after I set it and turning it off after it sounds
So far she's helped bake
challah, mix the dressing for a
feta, kale and pear salad and
prep a crock pot with Ethiopian Chicken. It's also the first time she's been enthusiastic about washing her hands, because I told her she couldn't help cook without clean hands and she immediately got to it.
Needless to say, I'm enjoying this tremendously, and I hope that Birdie cooking with me is a trend that happens for the rest of my life.
