Birdie Says Things

Dec 14, 2023 13:16

Take a toddler with a unclear grip on how the world works whose still learning to command the English language, and sometimes you get some pretty fun comments. Here are some recent gems.

Birdie mostly sleeps in her own crib, but sometimes if she isn't feeling well M will take her into the guest room so they can sleep in the same bed. If Birdie isn't in the mood to actually sleep, this doesn't work well, as with this exchange that M reported a while back:

M: I need to sleep.
Birdie: I'm not tired.
M: Well, I'm going to sleep.
Birdie: Ok, I'm just going to sit on my knees and watch you snore.
(M closes eyes)
Birdie: Oh, so pretty.

And another one the most recent time this happened.

M: We need to lay here and close our eyes and go to sleep.
Birdie: I'll close one eye.

Yesterday, Birdie advocated strongly for Ghost Cat to be brought up from the basement so she could play with him. Naturally, she used her green marker to draw all over him, which led to this exchange:

M: Why did you draw on Ghost Cat?
Birdie: He wants to be pretty because he's going to a birthday party.

It's hard to argue with that.

I suspect this will be a recurring series, so I've created the new tag birdie quotes and gone back and tagged a few older posts.
