Venus

My wife still has some stuff left in her old bedroom in her parent's house, so when my in-laws come to visit they have started haphazardly throwing some of her possessions in the car to bring them here. On a recent visit, my in-laws brought up the electric keyboard that my wife used for piano lessons, which had sat unused in their house ever since she left for college.

It turns out an electric keyboard is a lot of fun for a baby to play with, since it makes noise when you hit the buttons. The keyboard in question is heavy enough that we can put it on the coffee table, and Birdie isn't able to push it around or knock it off the table. Well, at least not yet.

Birdie enjoys banging the keys to make random noises, but what she really loves is hitting the demo mode button and letting the pre-programmed song take over. That pre-programmed song is Venus. Given the era that the keyboard was released, the electric keyboard version portrayed is probably because of Bananarama.

although I slightly prefer the original from Shocking Blue

Regardless of which version you prefer, the electric keyboard version is a step back in quality. It loops maybe 60 seconds of the song before starting over. You can imagine how enjoyable it is to listen to over and over again for your typical adult. Birdie, on the other hand, loves it. She'll turn it on and then dance next to the table. Eventually she'll tire of dancing and go play with something nearby, but if you turn it off, she'll come back and turn it on again. And again. And again. Sometimes, for variety, she'll mash the "faster speed" button, which accelerates the demo mode a little more than normal.

As you might imagine, I'm rapidly growing tired of Venus in all its forms, and I typically turn off the keyboard or unplug it after I reach a specific level of musical frustration. I'm not sure if we can call this Birdie's first favorite song, but it's certainly my current least favorite song!
