Birdies Still Got Hair

I took the Friday before Memorial Day off largely because almost my entire team had the day off. Since I had no meetings scheduled anyway, I succumbed to peer pressure and took it off too.

On that Friday, M gave me a haircut. Which really means that she just took a electric trimmer and went over my head for me. I'd personally prefer it to be shorter than it came out, but M prefers it to be longer, and she was the one wielding the trimmer. I haven't had any problems since we switched to trimmers earlier in the pandemic, and honestly I'm not sure why I'd spend money on a haircut in the future.

After M took care of my hair, she also tried to trim Birdie's bangs. Her first attempt back on New Year's Eve had resulted in extremely short bangs that made for funny photos. Since then, Birdie's hair grew out very nicely. It's long and flowing, and her bangs were starting to get into her eyes. This time, M watched some "how to" videos ahead of time and I helped keep Birdie from hitting the scissors, and the end results were much better. Birdie's bangs are now out of her eyes, and the rest of her hair is untouched.

Birdie's hair is very nice, but in further proof that most people just take gender cues from baby clothes, when I'm at the playground with her whether or not she's called a boy or a girl seems to depend more on what color her clothes are than anything else. I'd say that the number of dinosaurs on the clothes makes less difference than you think; the one pinkish dinosaur outfit usually gets "what a cute girl" and the primary color dinosaurs tend to get her called a boy. Weird.

I myself had very good hair as a baby and small child. My mother has a specific memory of me being given a "girl's haircut" when I was less than 5 years old because the woman cutting my hair thought I was a girl due to my having such nice hair. Alas, the stereotypical male pattern balding (my forehead is, ahem, quite large) probably means that's not a problem anymore!
