Birdie isn’t really talking at this stage. Although she makes plenty of fun noises, most of the time it doesn’t make much sense. She pretty consistently says “da” for me and “mimi” for M, but otherwise she’s mostly acknowledging what we say (e.g. “no” and “come here”) and not talking intelligibly on her own. It is super fun to hear her yell “da” though the french doors while I’m working though.
Today Birdie was chasing a ball around and it rolled underneath a chair. She bent down to get the ball and when she grabbed it, she very clearly said “got it!” She then rolled the ball toward M’s mother. When she picked it up again she said “got it” one more time. Both my mother-in-law and I clearly heard her say it, but after those two times she didn’t say it again even though she continued playing with the ball for quite a bit longer.
Earlier this week M swore Birdie said “bye” at a conversationally appropriated time. She hasn’t done it since. Apparently she has to be in the right mood, but the words are coming, and I suspect soon she won’t stop talking at all.
On a side note, the ball in question was from a xylophone toy that M got her from the
buy nothing group. Basically the balls are set in a frame, and then are pushed through the frame to fall on a toy xylophone. Because the xylophone is slanted, the balls roll along it to the ground,.
Note: this is the first post I’ve written on the
iPad we got for M back in 2020. The keyboard leaves a lot to be desired, but it worked.
