Dinosaur Island

We got a box of plastic dinosaurs from Shruti somewhere along the way. The soft plastic ones have all been turned over to Birdie for her entertainment needs and are a big hit. She has two favorites from the pile of 7-8 dinosaurs. One is the pterodactyl, which lends itself well to "whoosh" and "flap" noises courtesy of M and I. The other is a T-Rex that is substantially larger than all the other dinosaurs. T-Rex sometimes goes with us in the car or other places besides the living room. If you ask Birdie what noise T-Rex makes she will often respond with a "roar!"

The dinosaurs live on a large cardboard box that used to contain our worm farm. It slides easily along the hardwood floor and is the perfect height for Birdie to grab things off of it. Back when she was not fully walking, the box served as an impromptu walker. Now it has been dubbed "Dinosaur Island," and all the dinosaurs go back there to the top of the box at the end of the day. I'll grant you that Dinosaur Island sounds like an off-brand rip-off of Jurassic Park, but you can't have everything.

As befits an "island" that moves around all the time, sometimes the box gets flipped on its side, or the dinosaurs are forcefully tossed from the island to a hard landing in the surrounding "ocean." It also contains other occupants, most notably a selection of her Fisher Price "Little People" that M's sister has gifted her. These characters are also very popular with Birdie, although T-Rex is definitely the favorite.

The main thing I've learned about dinosaurs from watching Birdie play with them is that dinosaurs are frequently covered in drool. Somehow that was left out of the paleontology books.
