3 Months! Bird Clothes

As of this writing, Birdie is a little over three months old. For those without baby experience, newborn clothes and diapers basically go from 0 to 3 months, than 3-6 months, than 6-12 months. Sure enough, right on schedule Birdie grew out of her newborn clothes into the 3-6 month clothes.

This caused no particular problems beyond having to rearrange some clothes. Heck, it wasn't even the first clothing shift in her life because you're not supposed to put babies in swaddle sacks after they hit two months of age so we'd already shifted all of those out of usage. Today, her typical outfit is a zippered onesie complete with toes, but she also has several legless onesies that snap closed that can be covered by tiny pants. Those are somewhat more of a pain for diaper changing so tend to use those less. We also have a lot of little hats for rides in the stroller.

We bought very little clothing ourselves, aside from a few outfits that M decided were especially cute. Most everything else was a baby gift (either from the shower or after her birth) or a hand-me-down. In the former category, dozens of people contributed, although a significant chunk of her current 3-6 month outfits were gifts from M's friend Rachel. In the category of hand-me-downs M's sister, M's college friend Melissa and my college friend Helene all delivered large amounts of clothing in various sizes. We may have clothing lined up for at least the first year of her life and probably beyond.

Most of Birdie's sartorial options are unisex. There are only a handful of outfits that are stereotypically "girly." There are a lot of dinosaurs, foxes and hedgehogs, which I'm completely on board with. We've also got a fair number of elephant outfits, which works well because we've been taking a monthly picture of Birdie with a giant stuffed elephant that my sister got her, which serves as a nice "compare the kid to the size of the elephant" and is a idea we blatantly stole from Dawn who was dmw7. We even have an outfit with both elephants AND dinosaurs on it. That one also has "claws" on the feet, which is fantastic.

Absent a diaper blow-out (thankfully rare, but alas not unheard of), Birdie doesn't really get dirty at this stage in her life since she's not mobile. There's usually a bit of formula that has dripped on to her lapels, but she can often wear an outfit for a couple of days. We may have to rotate them more frequently just so they all get worn!
