You Are What You Eat: December 16 through December 21

Dec 22, 2019 20:03

M and I went to Toledo for the weekend to visit the art museum and the zoo. Other than that, there was plenty of home cooking.

Monday, December 16 - I hit the current December 2019 Eating Well for the Chicken & Vegetables with Creamy Coconut Noodles, which was a Thai-inspired soup. This was good but not fantastic, especially once we added the crushed red pepper I had forgotten. It even made some leftovers for later in the week.

As a side, I made the Broccoli Rabe with Orange & Sesame from the same issue. M really liked the orange & sesame sauce.

Tuesday, December 17 - The Roasted Gnocchi & Brussels Sprouts with Lemon Vinaigrette from the November/December 2016 Eating Well actually caused me some headache. For some reason my usual grocery store didn't have gnocchi any more, so I ended up at two more grocery stories before I found some. Once that was resolved, the recipe was as good as I recall it.

Wednesday, December 18 - We had a departmental holiday party at work, which featured shredded BBQ chicken, chicken tenders, mac & cheese and other such delicacies. A coworker also brought in Christmas cookies in bulk.

For dinner, we made the air fryer falafel for the fifth time this year. It was great with pita and hummus.

Thursday, December 19 - I've started making plenty of falafel filling, so we had enough left to make a batch for this dinner, which I will count as a second repeat instead of as leftovers.

Friday, December 20 - After arriving in Toledo, we walked a couple of minutes from our hotel to Luckies Barn & Grill, which is a BBQ joint. I had some very nice breaded wings and french fries.

Saturday, December 21 - We stayed at another Holiday Inn Express (our ninth this year), so this breakfast counts as a repeat, although not as the ninth since some times we got up too early for breakfast.

On a prior trip to Detroit a few years back we had stopped in Toledo for lunch at Carlos' Poco Loco. M wanted to go there again, so we did a late lunch there after leaving the art museum. I had a taco salad with chicken and a lot of chips. I also drank Dr. Pepper.

We got home after 9pm, and opted to get a quick dinner at Woodstock, our second visit of the year. I had wings and fries, just as I had the night before.
