This week started the major holiday party rounds for the year, with three. Probably not coincidentally, I've put a bit of weight on this week.
Tuesday, December 10 - Having arrived home late the night before, I bought lunch at the Bistro at work.
Then when I got home I ran out to the grocery store and for the second time this year we made a batch of
Tomato Soup with Orzo & Basil with some grilled cheese sandwiches.
Wednesday, December 11 - Weirdly, the last week we made the Tomato Soup recipe we also made my standard chili recipe. That's a weird coincidence. It was the fourth time this year that that recipe's number came up. We also made some nachos, which doesn't, in my mind, count as cooking.
Thursday, December 12 - We had our holiday party at work. There was an assortment of clever appetizers and desserts, plus a few beers.
At home for dinner I made
Balsamic & Parmesan Roasted Cauliflower. That one was from way back in the January/February 2008 Eating Well. We had more nachos too. Clearly missing my normal grocery schedule throws everything to pieces.
Friday, December 13 - For dinner, M and I tried
Aji Noodle Bar, which replaced
Yuzu. The service was very good, but we were profoundly unimpressed by the food, and we will probably not return.
After dinner we went to M's college friend Hadiya's house (
whose wedding we had been to in August) for a little party. There were some snacks (mostly wings from some unknown takeout place) and some drinks. I lost at pool a few times. It was fun.
Saturday, December 14 - We had two parties Saturday night. First I dropped M off at her friend Amii's birthday party at
Goldhorn Brewery. While she celebrated there I went to our friend Emily's holiday party, where I kibitzed with
gieves and
darlox among others. I loaded up on appetizers.
From there I doubled back to Goldhorn, where I had some pizza and played the Iron Maiden pinball machine before we went home. Note: I counted this as two parties.
Sunday, December 15 - For dinner I made the
Sausage-Spiked Meatloaf from the current December 2019 Eating Well, properly substituted with poultry for pork and beef. The sausage "spike" was very noticeable and quite tasty. It also nicely set us up for lunches this week.
We paired it with a salad, specifically the
Best Caesar Salad with Crispy Parmesan from the November 2019 Eating Well (except there it was listed as the 3 Greens Caesar Salad, go figure). I mixed up the greens a bit from the recipe, and at M's request left out the anchovy. With that said, the
homemade parmesan rounds were a big hit, and the salad was pretty good too. I don't think I'd follow the recipe again, but I'd make the rounds at least.
