You Are What You Eat: October 9 through October 13

Oct 15, 2019 22:19

This post encompasses a quick trip to Zion National Park, so it has a lot of new to me restaurants.

Wednesday, October 9 - I threw the Garlic Brown Sugar Chicken in the crock pot for the second time this year, but it was more for M than me as I caught a flight that night. I ate a sandwich from a take out place called Cibo Express in the Houston Airport. It was fine.

Thursday, October 10 - After a long day of hiking in Zion, Cris, Adam and I ate dinner at a local joint called The Spotted Dog in Springdale. We were pretty hungry, but I'm confident that the pasta Napolean, creamy brie and lemony dessert all would have tasted good even without the hunger generated by a day outside.

Friday, October 11 - We stayed at Under Canvas Zion, which is fancy glamour camping (we got a massive discount through Cris's friend). The breakfast burritos at their restaurant were excellent.

We knocked out three more hikes and two scenic drives during the day, and ended up having dinner at the Zion Canyon Brewpup just outside the entrance to Zion. The fries were really, really good. The fish tacos were good enough.

Saturday, October 12 - After a hike in Upper Antelope Canyon and a short walk at Horseshoe Bend, we stopped for lunch in nearby Page, Arizona. We opted for El Tapatio, which is one of the local Mexican joints. It was gaudily decorated, and my mole burrito was good.

We were back in Las Vegas for dinner. The three of us plus Adam's wife Carrie went out to what is apparently a west coast chain ramen place called Jinya Ramen Bar. I had several small salmon poke tacos (thank you extended happy hour), two vegetable appetizers (tempura Brussel's sprouts and caramelized cauliflower) and a big bowl of chicken ramen. Admittedly, I'm no ramen expert, but it sure seemed good to me.

Sunday, October 13 - I had a standard breakfast in the Las Vegas airport at Burke in the Box before boarding. It was fine.

Upon my return, M wanted pizza, so we did Angelo's for the third time this year.
