You Are What You Eat: January 21 through January 27

Jan 28, 2019 08:12

There were a bunch of party-like things this past weekend, so this summary should hopefully take less time to write than the last one!

Monday, January 21 - Dinner had two parts:

Soft Green Beans - New Recipe - This was from the January/February 2019 Eating Well. The green beans and onions were very soft. Upon reflection, I prefer my vegetables crisper, but it was a nice change of pace, and I might make it again.

Beef & Bean Sloppy Joes - New Recipe - This recipe was another selection from the January/February 2019 Eating Well. Given my resolution to avoid red meat, I made this with turkey sausage instead. Using sausage may have made it even more flavorful. M and I both really enjoyed this. The only downside is that we didn't use nearly all of the buns I purchased, and I spent the rest of the week making pb&j sandwiches with them instead of putting them in the freezer as I should have.

Tuesday, January 22 - Slow-Cooker Chicken & White Bean Stew - New Recipe - For the second Tuesday in a row I had a 7pm meeting for radio, so for the second Tuesday in a row I prepped the crock pot on Monday night and had dinner waiting when I got home. This stew was much, much better than last week's Butter Chicken recipe. It was very flavorful, with a thick consistency that had good mouth feel. I will make this again.

Wednesday, January 23 - I had a lot of leftovers so I didn't cook for dinner. Unusually, for lunch I went out with some coworkers who used to be on my team. We'd hooked the instigating coworker on Cafe Tandoor during that time period (he'd never had Indian food before), so we went there. I had a nentara biryani.

Thursday, January 24 - Creole Red Beans - I'd made this recipe from the Moosewood Restaurant Favorites at least once before. My notes said "good", but this time it had an extremely rich flavorful sauce that was better than just good. Now my notes say "Make more often."

Friday, January 25 - M and I were supposed to get lunch with my aunt last weekend, but the bad weather led to us rescheduling for Friday night. My aunt selected a new restaurant in Beachwood called Lindey's Lake House. I had the signature fried chicken, which was fine. They have those garage doors to a patio that are so popular in the summer. Even closed, it was very cold sitting next to it, and it was also very loud even though they didn't have music on. This falls squarely into the "I'd go again if somebody wanted to" bucket.

Saturday, January 26 - Before I donated platelets, I had an omelet for breakfast using some tomato salsa and guacamole that M had made for a work function on Thursday. That evening I went to the annual Bread & Soup party that katspaw156 hosts, and I ate heavily of both bread and soup, as well as desserts. Then I went to my semi-regular poker game and ate a lot of Oreos while winning $1.45 on a $2.00 buy in.

Sunday, January 27 - For breakfast M and I went to the bagel brunch fundraiser at Mahall's for the Cleveland Print Room. The bagels were from the Cleveland Bagel Company, and they were very good. I think they were properly boiled instead of steamed, which is pleasantly surprising. Note: I counted this as a party/friends cooking.

For dinner, I made one of my very favorite recipes: Asparagus & Mushroom Risotto from the May/June 2012 Eating Well. It came out as well as it normally does, which is to say that it is one of the most delicious things that I know how to make. We also had a nice arugula salad with it.
