The Oakland A's only come to town once per season (absent playoffs, dare I dream?) so I take advantage of it as best as I can. This had them matching off against Cleveland on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Friday night M and I went to
the game with M's friends Beth and Danny. To our shock it was nearly sold out and we had to settle for standing room only tickets in the left field corner. That's the first time I've had SRO tickets since I went to a game in
Detroit back in 2004. My knees were not thrilled by the end of the game. On the plus side it was an entertaining game. On the down side, the A's bullpen imploded, and I got to watch the A's pull off a rare double-steal with
Francisco Lindor stealing home. That's something you don't see all that often; it's a shame it was for the wrong team.
Saturday featured the usual errands plus an oil change, then M and I used my season tickets for the late afternoon game. From my perspective, this
game went much better. The Indians jumped to a 3-0 lead that held up until ace
Corey Kluber (the best Indians starter of my lifetime) was pulled. The Indians bullpen promptly imploded, which led to me being the only person on the first base line standing and cheering when
Jed Lowrie hit a two run home run, and more cheering when
Krush Davis tied it with another home run on the next at bat. From there, the game went to extra innings. In the 11th
Stephen Piscotty gave the A's a two run lead on another homer, and Lowrie pushed in
Matt Chapman for the final 6-3 margin. It was a great game, and weirdly the first time I saw the Indians lose this year in eight attempts.
Sunday I passed on the A's for radio, with a
nice set based on a
starting point of Luther Vandross, plus an
O'Jays giveaway. Then I headed down to Dayton to start the
big road trip. I parked at Neal's house and when we went out for a beer before he dropped my at Ryan's place.
