Otherwise known as things I forgot in my
original post.
- When I walked Tulip in the morning before catching the bus, I passed many businesses with "closed today, at parade" signs on the door, including every single business in one of the larger buildings in Lakewood. I'm not sure anyone went to work on Wednesday.
- Despite riding two buses and two trains, my cost out of pocket for transit was $0. No, I wasn't jumping the fares (how would you do that on a bus anyway?). As it happens, last Saturday the transit people sent me a "try using us free for one week from June 19 to June 26." I don't know how many people got that in the mail, but you'd think they would have considered potential area events before greenlighting that promotion.
- As a side note, if I worked downtown I could absolutely take the bus to work under normal circumstances.
- There was heavy police presence throughout the day, from the train stops to the parade area and surroundings. Given some of Cleveland's recent
police behavior, this could have gone poorly, but instead the police were being cheered almost as much as the Cavs themselves. I saw numerous police taking videos of the crowd and enjoying the moment.
- Lastly, at work on Monday somebody said words to the effect of: "Cleveland sports are on a roll. The Monsters won, the Cavaliers won, the Indians are in first place, and if everything breaks right the Browns might win as many as 6 games this season!" That's called optimism.
