Since my
first day of CrossFit last December until the end of July, I lost five pounds. Weight loss wasn't my main goal, and I got significantly more toned and fit, so this was perfectly fine with me.
Over the five weeks I was
in Europe, I lost seven more pounds. This puts my at my lowest weight since
the end of the 2013 bike season.
I was certainly walking a lot in Europe, but the food was the main reason for the weight loss. Everything I ate was delicious, and much of it was unhealthy, but the key bit was that European restaurants didn't go overboard with portion size, and I ate relatively little outside of meal time, so I ate much fewer total calories than I do at home. In other words, fewer unhealthy foods in Europe was better for my weight than more healthy foods at home. I would not have guessed that.
In any event, to consolidate those changes, I went back to CrossFit last Monday. If
not biking for a mere six weeks made me feel sore, you can imagine how six weeks without CrossFit made me feel after my first few workouts back. Ouch. Understandably, my lower body didn't regress much but my upper body feels sad and weak.
