Withdrawal?

I've had a killer headache most of the day. I got more than enough sleep the last two days, including a solid nap on my flight back from Philadelphia this afternoon. I was around sick people the last few days, but don't feel sick and don't have any other symptoms at the moment. I think I may be going through withdrawal.

My college experiences with caffeine were unpleasant. I would avoid it for weeks, and then an all-nighter would come along and I'd drink a case of Dr. Pepper. Then a few days later I'd get massive withdrawal headaches, which would eventually fade, and then I'd be fine until the next all-night. I didn't really recognize the pattern until near the end of school.

In part because of this experience, under normal circumstances, I drink minimal caffeine. I dislike coffee intensely, and although I enjoy an occasional cup of hot tea or glass of iced tea, those are relatively rare indulgences. Hot chocolate doesn't have much in the way of caffeine by comparison, and I almost never have soda (or pop, if you prefer) in the house. My last experience with caffeine withdrawal was a few years ago when my family took one of my company's timeshares in Florida. My mom made lots of ice tea every day, and I drank most of it. The few days after the trip were... rough.

Assuming I don't develop other symptoms, I'm thinking I may have done it again. I just spent four days in Philadelphia at the house of people who like to have pop. I had a couple of cans each day, between the booze, the pizza, the brisket, the sub and every other unhealthy party food you can think of. That's a lot of caffeine in a short amount of time. I guess we'll see how I feel tomorrow, but even if it turns out to be something else this was a nice reminder of why I don't drink caffeine.
