We've got some CDs that we don't want. Here's the list, in alphabetical order, with commentary:
---
1.
The Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash - Live
I've got two of their studio albums, which are solid country efforts in the vein of, yes, Johnny Cash. They actually got permission from the Man in Black to use the name. This live effort isn't so great, honestly. It certainly doesn't compare to the night I saw them, which was a scant three days after Johnny went to the great juke-joint in the sky.
2. Bon Jovi - These Days
3. Bon Jovi - Bounce
I love
Bon Jovi, but these two albums are pretty weak. I think I spent $.50 on the both of them.
4.
Bury Your Dead -
Cover Your Tracks.
This is a metal band. They are terrible. I spent $1 on this album at Record Rev because every single track title is the name of a Tom Cruise movie; e.g. Top Gun, Vanilla Sky, Eyes Wide Shut, etc. What can I say? I'm easily amused. I blame
pussygalore66.
5.
Al Green - The Best of Al Green: The Millennium Collection
I got this at a library
bag sale. It turns out that Al Green has multiple best-of albums. This is the one that isn't very good. Oh well.
6. The Janglers - Circuit Ride
7. The Janglers - Sweet Providence
Cleveland country-rock band from the early 1990s featuring Jason White, who wrote the Tim McGraw hit
Red Ragtop. White's solo albums are pretty good, but these efforts sound like what they are: early efforts by him and his high school friends. I bought these at one of his shows, more as a "holy crap your show was awesome" gesture than out of any actual need.
8. Guns N' Roses -
The Spaghetti Incident? The Guns N' Roses cover album is pretty easily their worst effort, which is why you can find this in $1 bins at every used CD store in the country. It's actually not a terrible album, but it doesn't have much to do with GN'R.
9.
Joker's Daughter - The Last Laugh
It's British singer-songwriter Helena Costas, produced by Danger Mouse. It's pretty spectacularly average; I got it as a free selection from the 'big bin of please take one with purchase' at Music Saves.
10. Less Than Jake -
Hello Rockview Do you remember when Less Than Jake was a good ska band instead of a mediocre pop band? Me too. Good times. Anyway, I snagged this out of a $1 bin, forgetting that we already had a copy. Pretty easily the best CD on this list.
11. Public Enemy -
Yo! Bum Rush the Show Actually, this probably the best album on the list, but I'm not a big fan of rap. I got it from the same bag sale as Al Green.
12. Slayer -
Christ Illusion I love older Slayer, but this didn't do much for me. It was a premium from the one donation I ever made to WJCU.
13. The Waifs -
Sun Dirt Water The Waifs are my favorite Australian band of all time. This is also probably true for my parents and my sister. They are a folk-rock trio; we've collectively seen them maybe 15 times. Due to a miscalculation, we ended up with 4 copies of the album for 3 households. This was probably my fault.
14. Robbie Williams -
Reality Killed the Radio Star On our flight back from Australia in 2005 the Robbie Williams DVD "Live at Royal Albert Hall" was playing on the seat-back monitors. It's quite brilliant, and ever since then I've thought I liked Robbie Williams. I don't, actually. Except for that one effort his pop sensibilities have never meshed with mine. I snagged this at the bag sale in the hopes that might change. No dice.
---
Since I spent maybe $15 on all 14 of these albums, they won't cost you a penny. Instead, leave one dirty joke in the comments for each CD that you want. If you live in Cleveland I'll hold it for you; if you live out of town we'll figure it out. Anything not claimed by the end of the week will get hauled to work and then to Record Exchange.
