Hamlet being a very small dog, the longest he can be in the crate is about 6-7 hours. If we go to bed around midnight-12:30, this means he has to be let outside in the area of 7:15-7:30. I don't like getting up that early, but it beats giving him a bath and washing out the crate every morning.
After getting up at 7:15 and walking and feeding the dogs I'm awake enough that going back to bed for an hour isn't going to be very helpful. So I've been getting in to work in the area of 8:30 for the last several weeks, which is a full hour earlier than I did most of the year. Since I'm leaving at the same time, I'm racking up some extra overtime.
It's the kind of thing that I always knew was possible but was way too much effort to achieve, especially given that I don't HAVE to be at work until 10, and even if I was late it'd probably be ok. The extra cash is helpful too, especially given the assorted dog start up costs. With that said, if Hamlet learns to hold it for 8-9 hours so I can get some extra sleep I think I'd be happier. Right now I have to consciously go to bed at a certain time, which is way too much like being a grownup for me to handle :-)
