This is really a longshot

On September 9 of 1998 I saw Mark McGwire and the St. Louis Cardinals play the Cincinnati Reds. It was the day after McGwire hit number 62 (yes, I was one day away from history). McGwire wasn't going to play, but they told him it was the biggest crowd they'd had in Cincinnati since Pete Rose retired (said interval includes a Reds World Series appearance) so he played a few innings.

A few days after that game I wrote a long overwrought email about my brush with baseball history, which I sent to a large portion of my address book. Said email, alas, has disappeared into oblivion. But maybe, just maybe, somebody reading this was friends with me in 1998 and has the sort of anal retentive nature that would cause them to keep every email they've ever received. If that's you, please do me a favor and check to see if you have a copy of that mass email.

It was probably dated somewhere between September 10 and September 15 of 1998 (certainly no later than October 1), and probably would have been sent from my old hotmail address, which IIRC was cynic51 at hotmail.com. The tone of the email was like a very juvenile inept Frank Deford.

If you happened to have it, I'd be grateful. I just dug through my final backup of my college computer and it's not on there, so this pretty much my only hope. It wasn't great writing by any means, but it was heartfelt.

help me, baseball
