as fucked up and close to my heart as my last post was, i believe this one is even worse. Mom says teacher let classmates vote autistic son out of class
yes that's right. to punish him, a child in kindergarten who has asperger's syndrome was voted out of class, weakest link style. then the teacher had each student say what they did not like about ( Read more... )

hmmmmm. firstly public school basicaly sucks its all about finding pecking order and socializing kids to be good little corporate capitalist pigs. 'different' kids always end up at the bottom of the pecking order. I never said aspergers kids were dumb or bad- but they definately have a different reaction mechanism than other kids and will generally end up at the bottom of the pecking order one way or another. So...no I dont think they should start out in public school- hey its hard enough for your average five year old to control their behavior....I admit my experience with aspergers is minimal but what I have observed leads me to believe that socialization gets a bit easier as the kids get older- 8 to 10 or so. Until then my experience is that thy are kinda ticking bombs just waiting to blow up and lose control. My likability comment came from the fact that some of the dealings I have had with aspie kids has actually made me want to kill them. Possibly even torture and then kill. Of course it was because MY kid was taking the brunt of an out of control aspie and MY kid got hurt. I am just a momma grizzly bear :)

being a mama grizzly is a good thing. ;>)
public school beyond sucks. i hate that my kids are subjected to it. i just don't know if separating the kids would help or make it worse.
then, also, there is the fine line between the aspergers behaviour and the kid doing it because they have been allowed to. sometimes, the parents of these kids feel sorry for their kid, and put everything down to the aspergers. these kids still need some form (as much or more so than other kids.) of guidance and discipline, not constantly permissive response from their parents.
go mama bear! ;>)
