After years of traveling to national conferences and writing conventions in the south and southeast, I'm ready to stay home in Corpus Christi. But I have gifts. I have met with editors and literary agents. One absolutely interesting conference allowed me private mentorship with Holly Mills, formerly of the Saturday Evening Post. I've learned exquisite things, so what do I do now? Should I put all of that on a shelf? I've decided that would be a tragedy.
So, I'm going out on a limb and doing something that has not been done in my hometown. I'm opening a small writer's workshop studio, open daily from 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays. It will have to be a for-profit organization so I can cover the basic expenses of rent, utilities, insurance and a small business loan, but it will be a creative and beautiful space for writers to meet and work. I am designing it to be a place where writers can shrug off their everyday lives and spend quality time on writing their stories without interruptions. The workshops will allow opportunities for enhancing skills as well as encouragement. Don't we all need that? So, I hope this endeavor is truly noble and good. I hope others will value the resources and the space. Most of all, I hope my dream helps others achieve their dreams.
