"There's got to be some somewhere," she says aloud. Stupid lump, she thinks affectionately, it's an ancient model made at least three hundred years ago. Sometime in the fifty-first century. There are loads of better, faster models around. Ones that don't need extra parts made of metal! Metal, honestly!
"But you and me, we've been through a lot together. Some damn tight scrapes. We'll get through this one." Jesse runs her hand over the warm white surface and checks out the planet local time. It's almost night. She'll have four hours to go scavenging again, the over-ground markets have everything, Lily had told her, there were the expensive, high-class shops that have windows overlooking the surface and the small, illegal ones that are actually on the surface. Lily had even told her how to find them. It wasn't the first time pillow talk had been useful; Jesse grins wickedly.
She'll find the metal and buy it, and build the piece herself, and if her falsified credit didn't hold out, "Well, then, I'll just have to steal it. We'll get through this. Don't you worry." The metal pulsed beneath her hand and sent a thought to her (Not worried.) Jesse laughed.
