Of course, that explains it

About a week and a half ago, I received an automated call from a local hospital with which many doctors affiliate. The recording told me that it was imperative that I call them back soonest to discuss the statement they recently sent me. I was confused and somewhat alarmed as a) I had paid all my copayments recently, and the rest ought to be covered by insurance, and b)I hadn't received any statement.

I called the number and got an automated answering service that would not allow me to proceed until I had entered an identifying number that could be found - you guessed it - on the upper right hand corner of my statement!

After some fretting, I gave up and forgot about it, until last night. I received a statement/bill in the mail from said hospital. It charged me $0.00. Just straight out. None of this "this is what we charge, this is how much your insurance paid, you owe a balance of $0.00," it was just straight up "amount charged: 0, amount you owe: 0."

Talk about exercises in pointlessness.
