Explain to me why it is that some professors seem intent on making you feel you stupid. When my Business Law professor says, "My goal is to make you think." *gasps and laughter from class* "Well, no just for you to use your brain." Ummmmm "Well, to just to get you to start to think more critically*." I feel a growing need to get up slap him just ( Read more... )

hi there, just added ya...

as far as the prof goes, a lot of profs have poor teaching skills... It is sad, but at 4 year universities research is more important than teaching...

Thanks for the add, hun!

I'm noticing that as I get closer to my AA, the professors are becoming more self-involved. Not really focusing on the students as much as they used to. I think I just got spoiled. =)

I am not sure that there is any reason you should see that at AA level. First few years of BA/BS level you probably will since the classes will probably be taught by either Jr. Faculty, or Upper level Teaching Assistants. There is a good reason they are not always the best at being involved with students. They are completely overwhelmed. Doing tenure level research or finishing a PhD and teaching is rough. Most people would not think it is rough, but it takes an insane amount of time to prepare decent lectures and grade. If you are talking about a class of more than 30 it is really bad. I know I would love to actually know the names of every student in the class I TA for (but do not teach) but there is honestly no way...

if you ever take a class at a 4 year school that has a TA in addition to the prof, get to know the TA, they are often more than happy to help as much as they reasonably can!

I'll be transferring to the state university soon, as I'm almost done with my AA. But, last semester I had to take a math class with a profesor that was working on his doctorate and he was very* involved with his students. He always took the time to meet with students, etc. It's just that as I'm starting to take the core classes for my Business degree, I'm noticing less participation with the students. And yes, these are classes with approximately 30 students, so I'm surprised, as well.

I plan on getting to know the TAs as much as possible! lol Thanks for commenting, hun! *hugs* =)
