I just got back from a great time at the
Greater Lehigh Valley Writer's Group conference. Donald Maass was the keynote speaker. Back in 2001, I read his book, How to Write the Breakout Novel, all the while thinking, "Nope, never gonna happen to me." Okay, so maybe my novels aren't breakout, but it still was a total thrill to sign my books next to him. Thanks to
jongibbs for making that happen. I know a lot of you are writers and wish you could attend a Donald Maass workshop, but if you are like me you're really poor, so I will give you the four-word abridged version:
TENSION ON EVERY PAGE!
Got that? Good.
Other news: This Saturday, I am signing books at the
Glassboro Art Haven in NJ beginning at 10:30 am. Exciting.
On April 14th I will be participating in my
first ever YALITCHAT Mega-Chat on Twitter from 9-11pm EST. Other authors there will be: Julia DeVillers, Beth Revis, Claudia Gabel, Helene Boudreau, Brenna Yavonoff, Sarwat Chadda, and Andrea Cremer. This is especially of interest because the last time I appeared on YALITCHAT I ran away screaming. I'm telling you, that #yalitchat hashtag goes CRAZY.
Also, I'll be participating in two anthologies this year (none of them controversial:)! The first is the HarperCollins
DEAR BULLY anthology which releases in August, which I've mentioned before, which includes the experiences of 70 young adult authors with bullying. But now I am super-excited to announce I'll be appearing in an ebook anthology releasing in
October with my fellow debs, including: Jessica Verday, Carrie Ryan, Rhonda Stapleton, Lauren Bjorkman, Leigh Brescia, Teri Hall, Stacey Jay, C. Lee McKenzie, Janet Gurtler, Jenny Moss, Jackson Pearce, Kristina Springer, Charity Tahmaseb, Jon Skovron, Heidi Kling, Saundra Mitchell, Jennifer Hubbard, Kirstin Cronn-Mills, Lara Zielin, Shani Petroff, Kurtis Scaletta, J.A. Yang, Jennifer Brown, and Sydney Salter. More on that to come...
Other than that, sorry for being MIA. I'm working on revisions for my fourth novel, Living Backwards, which is going to have a title-change. And I am also drafting Dead River, my fifth novel, and working on a proposal for my sixth novel. Busy!
Okay, we are done here. Now continue writing your Breakout Novel, and don't say I never give you anything. :)
