Mellow summer evenings

Last night was very pleasant.
In the slightly less oppressive heat, I left work early (again, I do love my boss) and went home to do chores, alternated with wading in the paddling pool. (Well, it's for safety's sake you see - I have to test it before the housewarming on saturday in case it's dangerous ;)) I'm a bit odd with cleaning - once I start I can't stop until it's pefrect, so it annoyed me that there's a load of James' stuff just sitting around the kitchen, though I'm sure it'll get cleared up some time in the next 30 hours or so. Because if it isn't, to quote my dad, it's all going in a black bag.

With the kitchen and living room all sparkly and clean, I proceeded down the riverside towpath (which has now been totally resurfaced, making it really easy to ride down) to meet Edd for a post-viva drink. Unfortunatley I couldn't stay long as I'd been asked to coach some novices. They ended up not going out because one of them had fallen at sports day (he's a teacher!) and twisted his ankle, so I sat chatting to people for a while (and avoiding Toby and Tom throwing pebbles at my cleavage) and then went out to 'spot' fot my housemate, who was steering a 4x for the first time. Toby'd been doing it, but when they came past the club after their first lap, they asked me to come and help, because his calls of 'this way'/ 'that way' were distinctly unuseful! Despite our best efforts, they did get a little bit friendly with a tree in the Gut, but not catastrophically.

Speaking of disasters, when we got off the river, Katy'd had a phonecall from her boyfriend Tom (another Tom.  Boy this is going to get confusing on Saturday -  we have at least 4 Toms coming to the party!). He came to pick us up from the club (with James already in tow) and we went off to the cinema to see Superman. Quite the family outing, though James reverted from 'dad' to little boy by balancing on/sliding down the escalator bannisters on our way out ... at which point we of course disowned him :p

On a slight aside, I really must learn not to wear tops with low necks to the cinema. Cool they may be, but as I am increasingly discovering, my cleavage seems to have a magnetic attraction for bits of popcorn. It's most peculiar to get home and change for bed and find you still have bits of processed maize inside your shirt. Admitedly this time round I didn't have much time to prepare, but a note for the future I think.

Today I'm at the University Development Picnic (spending those hard-earned funds well) , then shopping for party food (and a house 'paddle' with some wine!) before the mayhem of tomorrow.  I suspect my next update will be post-housewarming, which will be yet another attempt to make it all the way through a party without tears - even though it's my party and I could cry if I want to - I'd like to make it the first boat club social (though there'll be other people there too) where I don't run away too!
