betcha ...

I've been having a long think (of which more later), and I think it may be time I started my own LJ Community, to be called the TE Lawrence Book.

You may have heard the story about the SCR betting book. If not here it is:
At dinner with our tutors after our first year exams, one of them showed us a collection of leather-bound books, collectively referred to as the SCR betting book.
They contained bets from way back in the college's history, mainly between the Fellows, but occasionally with graduates, and even more rarely with undergrads. They were wide-ranging bets, anything from the marginally serious, results of a local by-election, to the inane: "Joe Bloggs bets John Smith that on X day, 50 years from now, he will not be able to push him round front quad in a bath chair".
The only rule was that stakes were allowed to be in any currency mutally agreeable to the parties, except actual currency (in other words non-monetary bets). On many occasions, we are told, the wager was "a bottle of port of a famous brand" aka 'Bloody Good Port'

So perhaps I'm not entirely serious. But considering my current bet, and *that* hotpants incident last summer, I wondered if people would bet, what you'd bet on and what you'd stake!
