Nowadays, I find that I'm spending most of my time wasting away online, reading news stories. It really is strike season, isn't it? It's bad enough with the WGA fading out (and everything going topsy-turvy over at To Bed, or so it seems)... I mean, there's picketing all over outside the network buildings; you should check it out if you can. There's even more in LA, obviously, but NYC's pretty active too.
But now IATSE's gone on their first strike ever, and since I support Local 1, that means I can't go to work. That's the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employes, for those unfamiliar. The shows are dark. "Curtains" are, if you'll excuse my pun, down. Stagehands are out. My theatre's closed. I feel bad for all the tourists coming here for the Broadway shows only to find they they're not running. But I'd suggest the off-Broadway productions; they could really use the attention, too, and I bet they're getting it now that their competition (bigger theatres, television) is in trouble.
So. Theoretically and morally speaking, I'm all for this strike business. But gosh, I'm bored. I can't go to work and I'm not making money. Velvet, I hope this doesn't last too long, because otherwise, um, rent might become a problem. I'll have to start dipping into the savings.
Anyway. How are the rest of you doing?
Maybe I'll take this sudden wealth of free time as an opportunity to hang out with my family.
