Pain tells you that you are alive; fear tells you that you can bleed. It is enough to be proof of existence.
Fear is an interesting emotion; sometimes the best way to tell whether or not to do or say something is by how much you fear it. Much of the time, doing the thing you fear is not as bad as the anticipation of action beforehand. The trick is to go in baby steps and not give in to the flight-or-fight response... especially the flight response. Willpower is helpful here; please let me know if you know of a way to get it wholesale.
It is so much easier when emotions are not reciprocated. When they aren't, you can tell yourself that what you want is an impossibility and you should enjoy what do you have instead of pining after something that isn't going to happen, and probably wouldn't be good for you if it were to happen. The inital realization and disappointment is easier to get over because it's a dead-end and there's nowhere to go but sideways and up.
