Babysitting the Subjects

Nov 22, 2006 01:13

Tomorrow morning I have to go down to the toddler center and watch some of the test subjects. We're going to be performing some experiments to determine whether the children have mastered conservation of numbers and liquid. Haha, I know "experiments" sounds creepy. Basically all we do is pour dyed-blue water into different glasses and ask the kids if there's the same amount of liquid as before. We're not wiring them up to machines and zapping them or anything. After I watch the toddlers for a couple hours I'm heading down to NYU to hang out w/ my lil' bro until it's time to pick up Tora (my boyfriend) from work and catch our flight at 8pm. I can't wait to be home in Boston, even for a little while. It's only four days but I really need to get out of the city for the first time in months. I've always considered myself a complete urban dweller and thought I could never live in a city smaller than New York or Los Angeles. But lately I've felt like I want to live somewhere a little less crazy than NYC. I mean, I live just outside Harlem and at all times of the night I get woken up by random ppl screaming and throwing shit. After a while it starts to get to me. I just need that sense of open space and tranquility that can't be found in NYC. I can't wait to get back to LA for winter break and go hiking in the Santa Monica mountains and sit on the bridge at the Yogi retreat. For me, LA will always be home.
