1. Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?
No, I do not. You are simple imagining that you are reading this and that the cut tag was labeled "The Controversial Survey".
2. Would you do meth if it was legalized?
Almost certainly not. It does not float my boat.
3. Abortion: for or against it?
I would have to say that I am against it. After all, every abortion represents a pregnancy that a woman didn't ask for, or that became hazardous to her health. That sucks. I would like to live in a world with no abortions. I would also like to live in a world with universally available and socially acceptable birth control, no rape or other sexual violence, and no medical problems involving a developing fetus. Since the world isn't like that, abortions are necessary to keep women a)ALIVE and b)in control of their own destinies. I find these goals desirable.
4. Do you think the world would fail with a female president?
Yes, because the fate of the entire planet depends upon the gender of the head of the American executive branch of government. Oh, wait: no.
5. Do you believe in the death penalty?
Oh, hey, an actually thought-provoking question! I'm of two minds. On the one hand, my rational and fair self is thinking that too many people (i.e. any) wind up on death row wrongly, and that it's more than a little nasty to have institutionalized, government-sponsored homicide. Of course, we do have war. On the other hand, the imaginative and bloodthirsty part of me thinks that some people should just die to get them off the planet. So it is a quandary. I don't think I believe in the death penalty--I don't know how one believes in a policy.
6. Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
Yeah, I really do. Not least because there have been some issues on campus with fire safety inspections reporting pot to the police in quantities they wouldn't ordinarily bother about--oh, hey, note that "quantities they wouldn't ordinarily bother about"? If everyone, police included, agrees that a little private pot smoking isn't a problem, shouldn't the laws reflect that>
7. Are you for or against premarital sex?
Why, are you offering? I'm certainly in favor of it for myself! ;} For other people, I don't see what my opinions should have to do with their sex lives. I'm not against it, but it's not like I'm against not having premarital sex.
8. Do you believe in God?
Yes. Also Athena, Amaterasu, Thor, and the Tooth Fairy. I am an equal-opportunity believer.
9. Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
Quick, everyone, guess what my answer is! Three guesses, and the first two don't count! The word we are looking for here is "Duh."
10. Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?
I really don't. I think it's symptomatic of a problem, or several problems--the countries they come from being painfully poor, people here being happy to hire labor for under minimum wage, and others. But I don't think it's morally wrong for them to do so. (Far too many political issues these days treat a result of problems as though it were a problem unto itself with no connection to outside problems.)
11. A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?
A twelve-year-old girl should not have a baby. PERIOD. My sister is a twelve-year-old girl, and if she had a baby, the question of what to do with said baby would not arise. The question of "Who did this to you so that I can kill him?" would arise, as well as the question of "Are you even physically capable of carrying a child safely to term?", which might well answer the question--if no, then this is one of those occasions when abortion = very yes.
12. Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?
It really should. Right now, I can vote, smoke, have sex, join the army, and in all ways act as an adult member of society--except that I can't drink. That makes no sense.
13. Should the war in Iraq be called off?
It should never have been called on in the first place. I don't really know enough about the situation to say, but I've been given no reason to believe we're doing more good than harm, so why keep failing?
14. Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?
Yes, yes it is. Oh, you meant do I agree it should be? Not as currently defined. In the same way people can have Do Not Resuscitate orders, I think it should be legal for someone of sound mind (defined as "still legally capable of forming contracts for other purposes") to list conditions under which they would prefer not to be treated or kept alive forcibly. For example, as snobbish as it sounds, there's a degree of brain damage after which I would not want to live, even if I could be kept from complete brain death. I should have a right to say so and have my wishes respected.
15. Do you believe in spanking your children?
I don't think so. I myself was only spanked once, because I asked--I was curious. I found time-out just as effective on me. If I have children, I plan to use the same model. Not that corporal punishment is necessarily bad or unhealthy, just that it would not be healthy for me and my family.
16. Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
Fuck yes! I am an impoverished college student; there is very little I would not do for a million dollars! It's a piece of cloth, ultimately, a sign for soldiers to follow in battle, and no more a representative of this nation than a map--less. I can burn a map; why can I not burn a flag?
17. Who do you think would make a better president? McCain or Obama?
Obama. Full stop. (I wonder if my absentee ballot is here yet...)
18. Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
Yes, I posted these because I am afraid that people will make judgments about me based on my articulated opinions. Oh, wait, no. That's what articulating opinions is for. I'd rather people judge me on my opinions than anything else!
