this is the most important relationship of either of their lives

That right there is the reason I love these two. Every time one of them is mentioned, the other one must be. Like why the scarab never worked for Ted. For two men born into different timelines, the other is their constant.

Indeed! That's really the most OTP thing about them--they've been together so long that they've bled into each other, and everything about them leads back to the other eventually. It's not *just* that Booster was willing to spend the rest of their lives being unsung heroes, traveling around with nobody but Ted for company (on our planet, we call that "being married"), but that we as readers have been led by decades of comics to believe that they could live with each other that long, that they could spend the rest of their lives with only limited contact with anyone else. That's just...wow.

He was not just willing, that one moment when they removed masks and thought about doing domestic simple things with each other (before the future went to hell), he looked so happy. For all he speaks about glory, for all that other heroes want Justice, villains want world domination... Booster wants to have a beer with Ted.

Booster claims he wants glory, fame, money, and all the rest, but deep down, what actually motivates him is that he wants people to like him. If 'people' means 'his adoring public', that'll do, but 'people' can also mean 'this one guy who's been there for everything and has seen all the shabby, imperfect places in his heart but accepts and loves him anyway', and that's even better, because Ted isn't going away if he finds out that Booster's not perfect. He already knows.

That moment is so incredibly painful, because their perfect future isn't anything huge, isn't anything anyone inherently wants to prevent, not a better world or a pile of loot. It's just...going and getting a beer. And they can't even have that.
