You'd think after all of this time, people would learn how to do software development properly. But no. The longer I work in the industry, the more I am convinced that every company has to fall into the same stupid traps that every other company falls into. I'm not surprised by anything that the industry can toss me.
A couple of days ago, there were roundtable discussions held in response to some data that came back from the employee survey. The question was:
"Management cares about quality."
Of course, they were shocked, SHOCKED by the low response, so they asked us why.
For the last four years, we have always sacrified quality to make schedule. Always. Hell, everyone's bonus in the entire division revolves around hitting deadlines, not quality.
Then they ask us why we think management doesn't care.
