Feasting

Oddly, for some reason I have just remembered one of the high points of my life.

When I was younger, I went with my parents to Crete for a holiday. The holiday was supposed to be a relaxing time in the sun, with a nature guide to Crete's flora and fauna. Instead, it rained. No, it poured. No, it was a torrential downpour. People huddled in the hotel (which was very cold as it was built for hot weather) and a camaraderie was formed. Despite the weather, a large amount of (very damp) nature walking was done.

One year later, we were invited along with the other people who were on that trip to a meal, presented by some other guests who were at the hotel at the time. They happened to be the owners of a public school, and we ate a Greek/Cretian meal in the school hall, cooked by the pair and some helpers.

It was, without doubt, the finest meal I have ever eaten in my life. The dishes were exquisite, and kept on coming for so many courses I can't count.

I wish I could remember their names to properly laud them.

A strange, but very pleasant memory.
