APPLICATION:
§ Name: Matt.
§ Age: 18.
§ Location: Manchester, England.
§ Tell us a little about yourself: I work part time in a bar, and spend the other half of my time with music: Either playing in my band (Guilty Party), going to shows, or just generally chilling with friends and a nice bit of vinyl. I like to think I'm not a bad singer, but I take singing lessons to try and improve all the time. I was sXe at one point, and have tried veganism, but decided that it's not for me. I've also recently started collecting records, including the rather nice new Double LP from Pig Destroyer on white. I have a friend who is part of this community (Muthafxckinbill).

§ Top 3 Song lyrics:
"Hear my words that i might teach you.
take my arms that i might reach you -
that i might reach
straight for your throat.
This is madness.
will we not be satisfied
until we sit drenched in each other's blood?
The shame of only two appaling options:
a taker of life, of a dead man.
this is why the wives, the mothers, and children are mourning."
Shai Hulud - Ending The Perpetual Tragedy.
"When they broke down the door
and put their guns in the face of your wife and child
and as they pinned you to the floor
did you say "officer, i am not resisting you. " ?
American Justice american dream
is this what ' the other half ' means
half of our lives dissolved in fear
half of our rights they disappear
is our apathy so corrosive
where does the cycle start
hear the sirens screaming out in the distance
hold your family close to your heart"
Strike Anywhere - Sunset On 32nd.
"I’m wasted as my time
Spent sitting idly by
Drinking in this shithole
While you all went out outside
It’s a great day to fall asleep
It’s a kick-ass day to dream
That I’m still capable
Of saying what I mean
The times are changing
But we all stayed the same
We faded and faded
Now nothing remains
As we breathe our last breaths
And kiss our goodbyes
Remember us buried
Alive…
I’m wasted as
These city blocks
These Blockbusters
And parking lots
As faded as
A parking space
Sealed up
To see what rots
(The times are changing
But we all stayed the same
We faded and faded
Now nothing remains)
Hold on!
This ship is sinking and
I don’t know what to do
If we die in fire and water
I want to be with you
Oh captain, my captain
I fought hard
‘Til everything was lost
No fortune did I seek
Remember, remember, remember
Us buried in the deep
Remember, remember, remember
Us buried in the deep"
The Lawrence Arms - Necrotism: Decanting the Insalubrious (Cyborg Midnight) Part 7
§ Top 3 albums:
Shai Hulud - Hearts Once Nourished With Hope And Compassion: The first 12" I ever bought, it's just so hideously incredible. Littered with metaphors and pure hatred towards a lot of things, it seems strangely compelling even now. It's very easy to relate to what Chad Gilbert is saying.
The Kodan Armada - Collections Vol.1: This relates to the below question, in that if I really really want it enough, I will do anything to get an album. I tried countless distro's and record shops to get this release. In the end, I made a desperate plea on a message board for someone to help me, and a guy I've never met turns out to know some of the guys from the band. He then gets the CD for me, and says it's mine. No money. I still insisted on paying for it, because people like that are what makes people like me so happy. The CD itself is a compilation of recorded songs from prior releases, aswell as live clips of speeches from TKA shows. It's so beautiful, and I find myself taking "short walks down long roads" (sorry, I couldn't resist) listening to this on my CD Player, and thinking that despite the blustery wind, the sleety-rain and the grey weather, the world isn't such a bad place after all.
A Wilhelm Scream - Mute Print: Probably the best album of 2004. Just pure, unadulterated, pop-punk, with added extras!
Pop-punk + Sincerity - Gimmicks + Husky passion = Brilliance.
§ What are your thoughts on the R.I.A.A?
It's tough for me to relate, because I'm not from the US. However, I still have very strong views on this, especially now that people in the UK have begun to be targetted by various institutions. When I download something, it's not necessarily to just keep it there. By no means. If I like an album, I will go and buy that album. Not from HMV, or Virgin Megastores, or any of these big chain stores, but either from an independant record store, or direct from the band/distrobuter/label. The question that may arise is whether I delete files if I don't like them - The answer to this is maybe. I have a tendancy to let songs grow on me, and so I usually keep them for a little while to give them a chance. After say, 10-20 plays, if I still don't like it, into the recycle bin it goes. I support both small labels, unsigned bands and independant stores, and this gives me more peace of mind and satisfaction than sitting in front of a computer and listening to it on that. Holding a CD or a 12" is so much better than pointing and clicking. I am still very anti-RIAA though: I download a lot of things to "test the water", so to speak.
Another small point: many of the CD's I buy and tracks I download are not necessarily covered by the RIAA, due to the label being independant. This does not cause me to agree with it though.
§ What does music mean to you, anyways?
It's my passion in life. The reason I do or don't get out of bed in the morning. The reason I travel for three hours in a run-down van to play in front of three people. Everything and anything.
Apologies for the bluntless of the above question, but I'm dyspraxic. >_<
