These Are the Voyages: The Big Project
This Christmas I got the Star Trek modeler's equivalent of the Red Ryder BB Gun: Polar Lights' 1/350-scale model kit of the refit U.S.S. Enterprise. This is one of the most highly anticipated, highly rated, highly detailed Star Trek models of all time, and it's of one my very favorite spaceship designs of all time. When completed, it'll be about 3 feet long; it's roughly the same scale as the original studio model of the Enterprise-D used in the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I still have to finish up a couple smaller kits to clear off my modeling table, and buy a few specific paints (Polar Lights was kind enough to include a detailed list), so I can begin come the new year.
This is the most ambitious modeling project I've ever attempted, and it will likely take me several months to complete. (The model is so detailed, it includes the shuttlebay, cargo bay, arboretum and officer's lounge. Plus, I still have to find a job and an apartment and so on.) So I shall from time to time post entries about my progress, with pictoral accompaniment.
I can't wait!
