Building resilience

Today's topic in the course is about building resilience in our mentees.
Other than forbeginning teachers, even ourselves as individuals, it is quite relevant that we need to continually building our own resilience. This also brings to mind a good friend who is always worrying about his life.

He worries about how school views him, so he works himself to death, and yet laments how he is often drained to the point of exhaustion when he reaches home.
He does not want to hear nagging from his parents, so he often makes his decisions based on this premise, and yet I get the feeling that he feels trapped acting within the 'expected conventions', which i always told him he set them himself. Well, i am judgemental, but he has agreed to that.

And so conversations have gotten really tiresome. Everything is an issue or an area of concern to him. There are no solutions in his world, only problems. Sometimes i just want him to shake him violently and tell him to stop setting OB markers for himself. What would you do?
