Such a special day, my country's birthday.
45 years, we've really come a long way.
Through the war, racial riots and economic crisis, what have we lost?
MANNERS
Me: Auntie
Woman at foodcourt: .... (continues her own stuff)
Me: Auntie, chng tng please.
W@F: .... (still silent n ignoring me)
Me: Auntie!
W@F: Aiyah, I heard you lah.
WTF, then cannot answer me is it?
CIVIC-MINDEDNESS
1) SMS-ing your friend while you are stand in front of a total hand-sink, blocking other users
2) Discussing your shopping plans with your friends in front of the escalator
3) Forming a wall with fellow commuters to prevent other commuters from alighting from the MRT (such camaraderie)
COMPASSION
Sighted yesterday at Holland Village, was a woman with an umbrella and clutch purse. Her domestic help trailed behind, not far, both hands laden with groceries, and herself soaked to the skin because of the pouring rain. When questioned, all the lady replied was "She don't have hands to hold the umbrella. What do you expect me to do!?"
So there you have it, after 45 years of nation-building, this is what we achieved.
Happy Birthday, Singapore!
