Laksa is such a favourite local delight, but even the different versions of Katong Laksa have their respective fans.

If mee siam has "ham", is it still mee siam with ham, or is it a variant of laksa with bee hoon? Core fans of mee siam would not like mee siam with ham.

The street busker, the village bard and the punk guitarist are all musicians in their own right.

The school hall performance, the bard performance in the village square and the jamming session in the studio are all performances.

If the bard decides to sing heavy metal to the style of Japanese Noh, I don't know if you can still call it a heavy metal song, or a Japanese Noh recital. I'm not sure the Japanese will accept Noh if it is sung in J-pop style either. Whatever the form, it is still an artistic performance.

You should put this kind of thinking into your bard character's personality! :)

It's very hard not to measure up to some degree of standard right? Almost always based on individual's prior experience and the prejudices that comes with it.

(And tell me about it man. I've played too much 20th century music so much so that I'm actually struggling with J.S. Bach right now... too many clashes of performing values!)

I can't even begin to answer that question on what constitutes a "proper performance"...

Nowadays whenever I attend a performance, I'll try to point out the stuff that happens that I really liked (i.e. pick out the good points). It does add to the enjoyment and appreciation eventually, instead of being dogged by how this or that could have been better (there again, according to my standard).

Come.. move along now :)
