As many of you know, our mother has been dealing with kidney issues for many years and all of that came to a head this last year when she had to start dialysis.
I know that many of you are as strapped for $$ as we are, however, if every person I know donated just $5 we would be able to raise enough money for one weeks worth of hotel stay for our donor (who, btw, is a very generous aquaintence of ours) and likely much more; every little bit helps.
If you don't think you can help with a cash donation, passing this on to those you think might be able to is also helpful.
Anyone who would like to send my mom a card or some other little note to brighten her day can send them to:

You may also send letters/cards for the donor c/o my mom. His first name is Chuck.
Thanks for thinking of us and sending good energy our way.
love,
julia

WE NEED YOUR HELP
As many of you know, Barbara has been battling Polycystic Kidney Disease and is now in end stage renal failure. On October 24th, 2005, Barbara started dialysis treatments. She spends 4 hours, 3 days per week at a renal care facility. This is necessary in order to stay alive. Dialysis has improved her health, but she needs a transplant to ensure a better quality of life.
On April, 25th, 2006, her birthday, she will receive the gift of life from a friend. Since it isnt possible to get a transplant in Alaska, the living donor transplant will take place at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle, a long way from home. Transplants are very expensive and costs can be devastating. Even though her insurance will cover most of the procedure, there will be uncovered expenses: relocation for the transplant, lodging, some medical expenses, and some medications she will need for the rest of her life. There will also be some uncovered expenses for her donor.
To help defray such expenses, a fundraising campaign has been established in Barbaras honor through the National Transplant Assistance Fund (NTAF). NTAF is a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for more than 20 years. Through NTAF your contribution will be tax-deductible.
