Indifference

I'm the little butterfly
With the slit torn in my wing
My scales are all missing
And I cannot see a thing

I'm the little songbird
The tanager in the tree
While your children played
They tore my wings from me

I'm the little beetle
Crawling across the dirt
You step on me so easily
Don't care how much it hurt

I'm the little puppy
Wagging my tail in vain
Because you came home drunk
And beat me with my chain

I'm that little butterfly
Lying lifeless on the ground
My wings rent from my body
Cheerful laughter all around
